Great little printer, with useful features., Feb 04, 2006

Well, there aren't likely to be many of you out there who will find the template features of the Gala model worth the extra expense, but for me it fitted a particular job down to the ground. I was working a charity open day and taking prints of guests as souvenirs of their day. The location was the Man Utd football stadium and talking it through with the event organiser we talked about the possibility of being able to 'brand' the prints with the logos of a couple of the sponsors and to include a photo of the venue along with the photo of the guest. Anyway, to cut a long story short, the 730 gala performed well on the day, it only gets 4 stars though as it was a little slower than I really needed (I couldn't justify spending £2k on a kodak printer for one day - the HiTi paid for itself within about 4 hours, I'd have to still be selling prints for the Kodak to have made its money back!) I'd also really like to see a custom bag made for the 730 in the same way that there is one for the smaller printers. Also, something that printed 10x8's would be nice, although I guess this would push up weight and size. Overall, I'd higly recommmend the HiTi. The quality is fine (bear in mind that I'm selling these prints professionally, for home use it would be excellent). I may add another one to my set up to get round the speed issue for me. I would also think carefully before spending the extra on the gala model. Oh don't forget to allow plenty of time to get used to the template software as well - it is anything but intuitive. R.
