Answers - Printer Questions
Q1. What is a Dye-sublimation printer?
A1. Dye-sublimation is a process of creating photographs by a printing technique that diffuses dye onto paper. This dye comes in the form of a ribbon and is converted into a diffused gas when heat is applied.
A special print head warms to various precise temperatures and creates different levels of colour depending on the amount of heat produced. The print head in the Hi-Touch consumer printers is capable of producing 256 levels of each colour (cyan, magenta, yellow) and thus able to create a total of 16.77 million true colours by combining these three primary colours.
Q2. What's the difference between Dye-sublimation and Inkjet printers?
A2. Besides the printing technology , the other differences are as below:

Q3. What's the difference between Dye-sublimation and Inkjet printers regarding printing quality?
A3. Dye-sublimation differs greatly from inkjet in many ways, most significantly in quality. Dye-sub is known for its high quality and continuous tone output. Continuous tone means that all gradations of colour are used when creating an image. For example, when creating a grey scale, from black to white, a continuous tone printer will show all shades of grey in between the black and the white by actually printing them. A half-toning device such as an ink-jet printer will use a dithering technique of placing dots close together in order to trick the eye. In other words, ink jet printers use a series of black dots placed close to white dots in order to trick the eye into blending the pixels when viewed. With magnification the difference can be seen where the dye-sub output is clear and sharp but dots can be seen on ink-jet prints.
Q4. Can the 730 series only be used to print photo?
A4. Yes. The Dye-sublimation printer only can be used to print photos. It can't be used to print normal documents.
Q5. 730PL/PS: What's the max printing size of 730 series printer?
A5. The max printing size is 6"x8"(153mm*203mm).
Q6. 730PL/PS: How about the printing speed of 730 series printer?
A6. 6 x 8 inches(15 x 20 cm) = 70 seconds, 5 x 7 inches(13 x 18 cm) = 60seconds, 4 x 6 inches(10 x 15 cm) = 45seconds.
Q7. In order to print high quality photos, what pixel requirement will my Digital Camera need?
A7. 6 x 8 inches(15 x 20 cm) = 400 Mega Pixels,
5 x 7 inches(13 x 18 cm) = 300 Mega Pixels,
4 x 6 inches(10 x 15 cm) = 200 Mega Pixels.
Q8. What I can do with 730 series photo printer?
A8. Besides multi-size printing sizes, with the powerful Photodesiree2.0 software you can print varied personalized photos. The software allows you to create personalized calendars, greeting cards, ID photo, and CD label sticker. You can also produce creative colour toning buttons, options for adjusting saturation, contrast, sharpness, brightness, hues. PhotoDesiree makes it perfect for studio quality result right in your home.
Q9. How do I maintain and clean my printer?
A9. 1.
Do not touch the paper when the printer is undergoing the printing procedure.
2.
Do NOT re-use ribbons or papers that have already been printed on or use other brands. It may cause a paper jam or printing error and damage the printer. In this case the manufacturers warranty is limited.

Answers - Photo Output Quality Problems
Q1. Why is the colour on the printed photo different from that seen on the computer?
A1. 1.
First, you have to know how colour is created. The monitor shows red, green, and blue. Hi-Ti Photo Printer uses thermal sublimation technology transferring yellow, red, and blue colour onto the thermal printing paper. In fact, it is difficult to distinguish the transmission and reflection of these colours visually. Due to the property of transmission, therefore the monitor colour reflection is transferred to the printed product that shows a broader range of colours.
2.
Most monitors have not been calibrated properly to display the colour correctly. Adobe Photoshop has a monitor calibrator "Adobe Gamma" that can do the calibration, and such function is included in the control panel of Windows. Some high-level monitor calibrator uses suction cup to be stuck on the monitor in order to get the colour range. Such hardware and software combined device produces better and more precise colours solution than use software only.
3.
Using colour matching system for printing has large effect on the output. We should know that how to use different colour management system. Please refer to related documents and website of manufacturers for colour matching systems.
4. To assure the photo printed from Hi-Ti Digital Photo Printer is close to the one you see on screen, please confirm the following:
1) Calibrate your monitor.
2) Test different colour management systems
3) Try using ICM (Windows98 or 2000).
