Great printer but print head will not last, Jul 21, 2007

I would give this printer 5 stars but I've learned from personal experience that the print head WILL go out after 1-2 years of usage. It's too bad that Canon didn't put a better quality print head on this because this is an amazing printer.

Interested to read comments about the printhead. Mine, too, has failed after 12 months following modest usage. Otherwise I have been very impressed, especially regarding photo quality.

Its a fast printer which produces excellent results on a wide range of media, even using standard quality settings. Photo printing at the highest quality is outstanding. Canons software allows for a wide tange of adjustments to the output, if required. Having separate ink tanks for each colour is a great feature that most other manufacturers are now emulating.

there appears to be no solution to the problem of the page feeder printing out in 'reverse' i.e. printing pages from 1 to 10 with 10 coming out last 'face up' a real pain when printing out large documents

I bought this printer about a year ago as I wanted a good quality photo printer as I had just bought a digital camera. I have been very pleased with its performance. It is convenient because the different colour ink cartridges can be replaced separately which cuts the cost of replacing them. My only quibble is that, apparently, the printhead only has a guarantee of 90 days, I was not aware of this when I bought it, but mine lasted just over the year(I use the printer fairly regularly). It is easy to replace but is fairly expensive but 'System Insight' gave me the best price and as I am so pleased with the printer I though it was worth replacing it.

1. Superb photo quality prints 2. Ink tanks that give even flow and last well 3. I have never had to use the head cleaner, which I was doing all the time with other make (so called 'quality') printers 4. A strait printing path.

This is an excellent printer, allowing copies from draft to photo quality without the need to change print heads. Having 5 separate tanks means lower running costs. Quality of print is superb; colour photographs are hard to tell apart from "real" photos. A neat feature of this range is the ability to print directly to CDs. (Hint : if you have CDs already purchased which cannot be printed on, stick a blank label on first, then treat as if they are printable). Software provided makes it easy to design labels for CDs, and offers a number of options for printing borderless, or bordered, prints on a variety of sizes of paper. All in all, an excellent printer.
