Event Photography with the Mitsubishi CP9800DW, Oct 08, 2007

This printer inspires confidence srtaight out of the box!The well proportioned cube shape is very well finished in a light grey powdercoat with a quality front panel with front paper and ribbon loading. There are handles fore and aft to make lifting and placing so much easier. The ribbon is loaded via a cassette and for transportation this and the paper roll should be removed to prevent any damages according to the manufacturer. The software loads up very quickly and without hassle. There is also a paper level indicator to warn when a paper roll change is due and this is great for planning your workflow. The choice of print sizes is superb with 6x8, 6x8.5, and 6x9 the last of which preserves aspect ratio of 3:2.
On idle this machine is ultra quiet and only when a print run is starting do you hear significant noise.I like the position of the USB port tucked inside a corner to the rear of the machine out of harms way.Printing is fast and efficient and out of the box the colours are workable but colour profiling should only make this better. The people at System Insight are preparing a colour profile which should be available shortly and their attitude and dedication have been a Godsend.
I used this machine for the first time at a charity fundraiser ball along with a kodak 6850 and it performed flawlessly.Despite making light baffles for the Kodak it still decided to go AWOL again.[Editor: The Kodak 6850 has a design fault]
I now look forward to my next event with renewed confidence knowing that this printer will be unlikeley to let me down in times of need.
In summary I highly recommend this printer.
I also highly recommend the people at System Insight who have provided a very reassuring level of quality support.
